Aras Free Zone is one of the best gateways to boost the relationship between Iran and the Eurasian region, and how the region plays a role in the Eurasian Economic Union was the subject of a special meeting last week with academics from the East Azerbaijan region.

According to the Aras Free Zone’s Public Relations and International Affairs: “Donyay-e- Eqtesad” quoted the Head of Board of Directors and Managing Director of Aras Free Zone at the special meeting as saying that it is necessary to create a win-win environment between Iran and the Eurasian Union. “Armenia is the only country among the Eurasian Union which shares land border with Iran via the Norduz border in the Aras Free Zone.” Mohsen Nariman said, “Good diplomatic communication and a great deal of common cultural-historical attributes are other factors that could help to strengthen economic ties with Armenia and Eurasia.”

Mohsen Nariman Stated that Iran is important for the Eurasian countries as it is the connecting element for them to the East Asian countries such as India and Pakistan and said: “Iran’s effective role in this area requires strong rail and dirt road infrastructures and this is while in Aras Free Zone we have been conducting research for development of the rail transport platform from East (Aslanduz) and West (Maku) and now we are ready to implement these plans. Regarding the development of roads, we also have Jolfa-Marand-Tabriz highway under construction and we are trying to build a standard road. "Our President's remarks during their recent visit to Armenia that the Aras Free Zone could be subject to the implementation of the exchange agreement with the Eurasian Union were valuable, and we are doing our utmost to materialize this," said Nariman. He added: The possibility of exchanging 862 items of goods between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union with preferential tariffs is a great advantage for us, which can solve some of our country's problems under today's sanctions.

The CEO of the Free Zone Organization also said that the possibility of using each other's national currency in trade with Eurasia and avoiding the dollar, is another advantage that will help our work in the current situation and it will increase the rial’s value.
