Referring to the investment opportunities in the zone in year 1398, Safar Shasfandwas quoted by Eqtesad 24 as saying: "Investment opportunities in the current year were directed to livestock, especially the production of ostriches, turkeys and other meat products.”
Shasfand said: "In the field of industry in Aras free zone, we witness investment in car production, heavy industries, production of fireproof blankets, a 470-MW power plant and pharmaceuticals, which created a dispersion in the field of industry with no particular direction, but in agriculture sector, greenhouse cultivation is on the rise day by day and it is anticipated that, until next year, Aras will become the hub of greenhouse products in the country.
He added: "Two years ago, greenhouse cultivation was implemented in 50 hectares, amounting to 73 hectares in the Iranian year of 1387 and it is expected to reach 90 hectares during the current Iranian year of 1398 and a sum of 160 hectares will be added to cultivate greenhouse crops”.
Deputy director for the economic and investment affairs called the animal husbandry as another investment opportunity of the new year and said: "This year, we made good investments in meat production, so that in this area, we issued several licenses for the production of lamb, as well as a license for producing ostrich meat and a license for turkey production, which indicates an increase in investors' inclination in this area.
Shasfand said that the largest amount of investment in the Aras Free Zone belongs to the agricultural sector, adding that agriculture in the Khoda-Afarindistrict has had the most development.
Currently, a company has invested in this area, which is planning to plant in 5,000 hectares of land, and in this regard, the company has even negotiated with the Dutch companies to use their technology to extend its activity.
"One of the relative advantages of Aras is enjoying a good climate for greenhouse cultivation," he said. Today, the export of greenhouse products has increased significantly, and last year, with an eye to our target which was 14,000 tons, we witnessed 15,000-tons of exports which were even more than predicted.
Deputy Director for the economic and investment affairspointed to the continued the prohibitions on imports of goods to the free zones and said that although it has been considered harmful to these areas, but at the same timeithas caused the boost of production of some goods in free zones.
He added since the import of goods has been banned, the shops are either closed down or their sales have slowed down, so that investors are no longer buying and selling in this area, instead they are inclined to the industry and agriculture sector.
Along with the much damage that the ban on importing goodshas causedto the zone’s economy, he said, ithas led the economic activists to seek to bring technology and launch production activities, for example, after the ban on importing a Daniele brand, an Italian company, they decided to bring its technology and raw materials into Iran, and now its products are also exported to other countries.
He pointed to the other infrastructures, such as data center in Aras and said that the infrastructure and temperature of Jolfa provides the possibility to invest in the data center project, and now there are investors who are bringing in different servers and now operating in this area to carry out electronic operations.
He said we invested a lot in the past year and in the New Year in data center projects. Shasfand expressed that definitely the existing power plants that are under construction will also contribute to the advancement of this emerging industry in the region.
Deputy directoralso said that Aras is one of the historical and natural attractions of this region and expressed that one of the most important topics of Aras in the field of investment opportunities in tourism is the fact that ithosted 3.5 million visitors during the 15th days of the new year, and tourist attractions of the region from the Arasbaran forests to various churches with a suitable climate have always been a good destination for tourists.
In this case, investors have planned to construct four-star and five-star hotels and the large number of apartment hotels which is necessary for infrastructure development for the visit of domestic and foreign tourists.
