Majid Kiani, Managing Director of Aras Free Zone Organization, said in an interview with reporters: According to the Aras Geopark consultant, today, the 14th of September, the meeting of the Supreme Council of the UNESCO World Network ended, and during this meeting, Aras Geopark was accepted as Iran's new global geopark by receiving the majority vote of the council members.
Majid Kiani thanked all the people who have cooperated in the growth, development, and construction of Aras Geopark, and said: Aras Geopark has involved the organization and the local community by training and completing the empowerment chain, and it is necessary for the remaining few months to provide the best performance and The activities gained the confidence and favorable opinion of the UNESCO Executive Council.
Registering geoparks and maintaining geoparks in the UNESCO list is a difficult and long task and requires strong management. However, if the geopark is successful, it can cause regional poverty alleviation, nature conservation, and cultural and scientific promotion of local people and tourists.
The "Permian-Triassic" phenomenon, which shows the passage of 250 million years of the earth in one stone, is the most important feature of Ares Geopark, which is one of the rare works in the world.
The territory of Ares Geopark with an area of 1670 square kilometers has 31 diverse and main sites located in East Azerbaijan province and its territory is within Jolfa city. Aras Geopark offers a huge variety of geological landscapes and a variety of tectonic structures and geological phenomena in addition to the variety of different sites, and in addition, it has a special ecological, archaeological and cultural diversity.
Ares will be the second geopark in the Middle East that will be registered in the world.
