UNESCO Assessors Visit Aras Khajeh Nazar Historical Caravanserai

Director of Tourism, Handicrafts and Cultural Heritage of Aras Free Zone Organization, on the sidelines of the visit of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee evaluator to Khajeh Nazar Caravanserai, said: following the submission of 56 historical caravanserai’s request for registration on the world heritage list, the assessors have entered the country a few days ago and have started to check the condition of these buildings and on Friday, while attending the Aras Free Zone, they checked the condition of Khajeh Nazar Caravanserai.
Pointing out that the caravanserai of Khajeh Nazar (Abbasi), with more than 400 years old and one of the 999 caravanserais built during the reign of Shah Abbas Safavid registered in March 2002 as one of the national monuments of Iran, Fatemeh Moniri said due to the principal restoration of the inn, observing all the important criteria in reconstruction and restoration, proper use of this place, the effective role of associations and also its location on the Silk Road, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage included this inn in the list of 56 selected inns for world registration.
